Happy Birthday
My father Frederick Calvert was born 96 years ago today - Happy Birthday dad. This photo taken in his early 40's is how I remember him.

Nau mai, haere mai!
My name is Barry Calvert and I have created this site to share the stories that I know of my family. My inital focus will be
on my own father Frederick who was born 1930 in Dunedin New Zealand and died tragically early June 1977.
Currently there is almost nothing online about him so I intend to rectify that.
This is a tentative journey for me as I am having to learn a whole new set of computer skills, but I hope
the outcome will be enlightening and helpful for the wider family. Eventually I want this site to become a space
for any NZ Calvert family members to share the stories and photos of their loved ones.
I am also working on a website friendly version of the family tree starting with my great, great grandfather
Matthias Calvert who was born 13 February 1825 in Kettlell, Yorkshire England.

Sometime during World War 2, probably around the age of 13, Fred and his family packed up all of their possessions and left Dunedin bound for Lower Hutt, where his father Geoff had secured a new job in Lower Hutt and purchased a property at 144 Knights Road. Very soonafter Fred started attending Hutt Valley High School. In both of these photos that's Fred on the right with his younger brother Murray.

Fred was born 2 April 1930 and grew up in Lookout Point Dunedin where his parents owned their first home. Although records are sketchy we believe he attended what was then called Caversham School on Surrey Street. It was a happy childhood with loving parents, a younger brother Murray, and a large extended family.

Every family has a unique tale to tell, and our New Zealand story began in Dunedin. I hope to delve into the rich tapestry of the Calvert family, tracing our roots and celebrating the moments that have shaped us. From early ancestors in Yorkshire England to our present-day adventures our story is one of resilience, community, and enduring connection.
