Happy Birthday
My father Frederick Calvert was born 96 years ago today - Happy Birthday dad. This photo was taken in his early 40's - it is how I remember him.

Welcome; Nau mai, haere mai!
This website is created to share the stories associated with a specific branch of the Calvert family in New Zealand.
The inital focus will be on Frederick Calvert who was born 1930 in Dunedin New Zealand and died tragically early June 1977.
The administrator of this site is Fred's son and as far as he can tell there is current no information about Fred online.
Originally the motivation for this project was simply to get aspects of Fred's story on the public record, however over time
it is our hope to expand the terms of reference to include anyone and everyone related to him through our common
ancestor Matthias, Fred's great grandfather who was born 13 February 1825 in Kettlell, Yorkshire England.

Sometime during World War 2, probably around the age of 13, Fred's father Geoff and the family packed up all of their possessions and left Dunedin bound for Lower Hutt, where Geoff had secured a new job in Lower Hutt. Initially they lived in rental accommodation until Geoff purchased a property at 144 Knights Road. Very soonafter Fred started attending Hutt Valley High School. In both of these photos Fred is on the right with his younger brother Murray.

Fred was born 2 April 1930 and grew up in Lookout Point Dunedin where his parents owned their first home. Although records are sketchy we believe he attended what was then called Caversham School on Surrey Street. It was a happy childhood with loving parents, a younger brother Murray, and a large extended family.
